Financial Partners Credit Union Sponsors Downey Christmas Parade
DOWNEY, CALIF. (December 14, 2011) Financial Partners Credit Union once again served as the major sponsor of this year’s Downey Christmas Parade—which attracted thousands of local residents along its route from Lexington Road and Downey Avenue to City Hall thanks to blue skies and sunny weather.
The Downey-based credit union has helped sponsor the parade since 2006. It was a Santa Claus sponsor from 2006 through 2009, and became the event’s major sponsor in 2010. Financial Partners’ long history with the city of Downey began in 1937, when a group of aerospace workers pooled their resources to establish the North American Aviation Employees Federal Credit Union. A merger between Rockwell-Standard and North American Aviation led to a change in the credit union’s name to NR Employees Credit Union, and later to Rockwell Federal Credit union in response to additional mergers in the aerospace industry. Today, nearly 75 years later, Financial Partners is one of the largest credit unions in the Los Angeles area with $732 million in assets.
“We are pleased to again support the Downey Christmas Parade, which serves as a major fundraiser for the Downey Chamber of Commerce as well as many local nonprofit groups,” said Financial Partners CU President and CEO Nader Moghaddam. “It’s great to be able to help those organizations who do so much for people in the community.”
During the December 4 event, Moghaddam joined Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe and Downey Civic Light Opera Executive Producer and Director Marsha Moode—the co-hosts of the parade for Time Warner Cable—in the commentator’s booth. Downey Mayor Luis H. Marquez; Mayor Pro Tem Roger C. Brossmer; Assemblyman Ricardo Lara; Downey Chamber President Jan Scott; and Councilmembers David R. Gafin, Mario A. Guerra, and Fernando Vasquez all participated in the parade.
